Glossary
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)
The practice of optimizing your brand and content to be cited, recommended, and described favorably by generative AI engines.
Definition
GEO is the catch-all term for the discipline that has emerged as AI engines became a major discovery channel. It overlaps heavily with traditional SEO (technical health, structured data, content quality, authoritative backlinks) but adds AI-specific tactics: clear factual writing, well-defined entities, citation-worthy data, and presence on the third-party sources LLMs trust.
Example
A SaaS company invests in detailed comparison pages, schema markup, and earned media in industry publications — three months later they see citation share rise across ChatGPT and Perplexity.
